This level offers a dynamic movie house separate from the rest of the home. A guest favorite, the professionally designed theater room features a 110" projection screen, certified THX Surround Sound, and ButtKicker transmitters for a true cinema-style theater experience. Sleeping options include three king suites with flatscreen TVs and private baths and one queen suite with a Smart TV and private bath. A family suite is comprised of a king bedroom with flatscreen TV (full bathroom is located across the hall) and an adjoining room with a Smart TV, private bath, and two sets of double bunks and one twin bunk with a sleeping capacity for ten.

Spend countless hours swimming in the refreshing private pool and then unwind on the pool deck or oceanfront porches furnished with seating, lounging, and dining options. The shady poolside cabana is fully outfitted with a wet bar equipped with a refrigerator and icemaker, a full bath with shower, tables, a state-of-the-art stereo system, and outdoor speakers on all decks. Revitalize in one of two bubbling hot tubs; one is poolside with a waterfall feature, and the second is on the cabana bar rooftop deck, providing uninterrupted views of pristine Pine Island beaches. A private beach walkway allows for quick access to and from the sandy shoreline. Laughter-filled memories await as you and a partner take a ride on the Surrey bike.

Competition is the name of the game in the sports bar outfitted with multiple flatscreen and plasma TVs, sofa seating, a 63" TV, stereo, Olhausen pool table, Bonzini foosball, Ms. PacMan/Galaga arcade game, and Lord of the Rings Pinball (quarters are required for Ms. PacMan/Galaga and Pinball -- the owner provides a $10 roll of quarters) and a bar with a sink, refrigerator, icemaker, and dishwasher. A full bathroom is centrally located. Shoot some pool and have chilled beverages at the bar while enjoying a stunning view of the Atlantic. This room opens to a mid-level pool deck that boasts spectacular ocean views. Bedding options include two king suites with covered deck access, flatscreen TVs, and private baths. Laundry facilities with two washer and dryer units are available.

Relax in the spacious great room, with a unique open floor plan, soaring ceilings, and fabulous ocean views. The living area has a wraparound sofa, armchairs, and ottomans arranged around a 40" flatscreen TV with surround sound, stereo, seasonal gas fireplace, and wet bar. Professionally painted ceilings feature murals that depict morning, noon, and sunset skies. A half bath is centrally located. Doors open to a sun deck with seating and dining options to enjoy heightened coastal views, and a breezy screened-in porch has a table with chairs, stereo speakers, and ocean-to-sound vistas. The kitchen is finished with distinctive cabinets, granite countertops, two refrigerators, an icemaker, a 6-burner range, a double convection oven, microwave, Keurig and traditional coffee maker, and two dishwashers. Water view formal dining is available at two elegant tables, one seating ten guests and the second accommodating twelve. The breakfast bar provides casual bar seating for six. Nicely rounding out this level is a king suite with a flatscreen TV, ceiling mural, sitting area, ocean views, and a private balcony. The private bath has a glass block shower, dual sink vanity, and a soothing whirlpool tub.

Beach Chairs & Beach Umbrellas Provided: The owner rents six beach chairs and two beach umbrellas for guest use. Service is provided by Cabana Bob's Monday-Friday between Memorial Day and Labor Day, 10am-5pm. Please note that this service is not available for partial-week stays.

Family Suite: The bunk room on the ground floor adjoins a king bedroom to create a family suite. The king bedroom is located across the hall from a full bathroom.

Independently owned by a member of one of the Outer Banks’ oldest families, the Ben Franklin store is stocked with just about everything a visitor would need to go to the beach.

 

Ben Franklin stores were once part of a five-and-dime retail empire, with about 2,500 locations across the country in its heyday. As decades passed and the times and customers began to change, many closed their doors, leading to fewer than 150 of these nostalgic shops. Nags Head Ben Franklin, however, has withstood the test of time and adapted to the needs of its customers to provide a memorable shopping experience on the Outer Banks.

 

Debbie Terry Tolson, manager of the Ben Franklin location in Nags Head, recalls working with former owner Tommie Daniels. Daniels’ father, Moncie Daniels, started the business in downtown Manteo in the early 1900s. The Daniels family has been a longstanding fixture in the Outer Banks business community—Moncie even sold gas to the Wright brothers in 1903.

 

Tommie, with an excellent business mind, saw the opportunity the new Bypass presented and, in 1977, he opened the Nags Head location of Ben Franklin. He was one of the first businesses on the Bypass,” Tolson says.In addition to a new location, the Ben Franklin store saw a new group of customers.

 

“People would come from all around because Tommie had a little bit of everything—it was more like a five and 10 then,” Tolson explains. “As he went to the beach, he began to get more tourists, so he started catering more and more to visitors.”

 

Today, the 21,000-square-foot souvenir shop quickly catches the attention of anyone driving by thanks to the ocean-themed mural that decorates the façade of the building, painted by local artist Rob Snyder. This Ben Franklin location has become the must-stop shop for both first-time visitors to the area and generations of families who escape to the Outer Banks annually.

 

Tolson credits the great prices and friendly customer service to the success of the location, which keeps families returning.“People come in all the time and tell me, ‘my grandmother or my grandfather used to bring me here and now I’m bringing my children,’” she shares. “One of my favorite parts about working here is seeing the people come back year after year.”
