Both the first and second floors have oceanfront decks spanning the width of the house. Offering over 6,000 square feet of living space, this home is about 20% larger than many new Corolla homes due to changing zoning restrictions. Another wonderful feature of this home is the deck access - six of the nine bedrooms offers access to covered or open decks with ocean views. The popular community of Whalehead is close to the boutiques, casual and upscale dining options, and activities of the Timbuck II shopping center.

Sleeping options on the ground level include two bedrooms, both with king beds, private bathrooms, and flat screen TVs. One of the king suites includes a work desk. The balance is dedicated to entertainment options including a lively recreation lounge with ceramic tile floors, tray ceiling, pool table, foosball table, 4-person card table, big screen TV and a bar with sink, full refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and seating for five. A half bath is located on the this level and includes direct access to the pool area for those who are spending their time outdoors. Enjoy a workout in the exercise room equipped with a stationary bike, elliptical, and weight machine, then relax in the Finlandia Express sauna. The rec room door opens to a host of oceanfront amenities to enjoy throughout your stay. A sheltered patio is the perfect respite from the sun and offers comfortable seating options. The highlight is a sparkling private pool for daily swims, and a kiddie pool for young travelers to splash and play. Lounge chairs are available to sunbathe under coastal skies, and an outdoor dining table with seating for six allows for casual outdoor BBQ meals prepared at the grill station, which includes two grills. The poolside cabana has a bar with seating and is surrounded by a tranquil mural of rolling dunes, sea grasses, and a pathway leading to the Atlantic. A private beach walkway allows for quick trips to the ocean to stroll the shoreline, collect seashells, play in the surf or sunbathe on the beaches of Corolla. The large dune-top deck is the ideal perch to overlook beach activities. Washing off the saltwater, sand, and sunblock is simple with an open outdoor body and foot shower off the beach walkway, or more fully in the poolside enclosed outdoor shower that includes a separate changing area.

The fifth bedroom is furnished with a pyramid bunk and trundle, offers a private bathroom, a flat screen TV, and direct access to the covered deck. This level is completed with a media room with tinted windows, blackout curtains, and a wet bar with sink, microwave, and full refrigerator with icemaker. This room is furnished with a leather wraparound sofa, big screen TV to enjoy movies and sporting events, cozy armchairs, and a pub table with chairs. A half bath and laundry facilities are conveniently located. A breezy covered deck with Adirondack chairs provides memorable ocean views. A walkover leads to the cabana rooftop that has a bubbling hot tub and direct access down to the beach.

This space is designed for large gatherings, and the living area offers a wraparound sofa, area rug, and plush chairs arranged around a 65" Smart TV with console table that stores wine, and Sonos ARC soundbar and subwoofer with Dolby 5.1 surround sound. Steps lead up to a ship's watch loft area where guests can enjoy heightened coastal views. Great room doors open to an oceanview deck that is well furnished to enjoy sweeping ocean vistas and sea breezes. A half bath is centrally located. A gourmet kitchen overlooks the great room and features custom tile backsplash and granite countertops. Stainless steel appliances include a side-by-side refrigerator with icemaker, wine fridge, coffee center that includes a Keurig, cooktop, double oven, microwave and two dishwashers. Oceanview dining is available at a large table that seats twenty guests and casual seating for four is available at the kitchen bar. The top floor is completed with two king suites. One provides a king size bed, flat screen TV and a bath with slanted/roll-under sink. The second is oceanfront and has a king bed, flat screen TV, deck access, and bath with Jacuzzi tub.

Pool: Pool heated by heat pump. Ambient air temperature of 60 degrees or higher is needed to heat the pool, meaning that if the temperature drops below 60 degrees the pump will not continue to heat. Max pool temperature is 80 degrees.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
