The Wings Over Water Encore event is a weekend-long celebration of the many wintering waterfowl that are found at the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and beyond, and is a great way for birders to discover the off-season beauty of the OBX.

This special weekend celebration, held in Early December, is the result of a partnership among some of the historic town's favorite attractions and organizations, namely the Elizabethan Gardens Board of Directors, The Island Farm, and the Manteo Preservation Trust. As a result, off-season Roanoke Island visitors will enjoy an inside look at some of the community's favorite sites and historic homes, which are all decked out with a festive holiday decor. Attendees will enjoy full access to community open houses at the Roanoke Island Farm, the Elizabethan Gardens, and a number of historic residences that are all part of the Holiday Tour of Homes. The event coincides with the start of the WinterLights celebration at Elizabethan Gardens, making it an extra special adventure for locals and visitors alike on the hunt for an inspired way to get into the holiday spirit. The Town of Manteo will host an incredible display of fireworks over the water on 4^th of July that will make any Independence Day celebration truly memorable.
