The ground floor offers a rec room with a pool table, a large mounted flatscreen TV, seating throughout, and a wet bar that has a refrigerator, sink, microwave, and cabinet storage. Down the hall are two bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with two built-in pyramid bunks. The king bedroom has a private bath with a double vanity and a walk-in tile shower. The bedroom with two pyramid bunks has direct access to the king bedroom via a pocket door, making this space the ideal spot for a family with young travelers to claim upon arrival. A half bath is located in the rec room that also has a door that leads outside and lands you right next to the outdoor shower. Sliding glass doors invite you to the outdoor area that offers a fully fenced private pool, a hot tub, poolside lounge chairs, and an outdoor dining set. Laundry facilities are located on the ground level.

Centrally located is a media den with a mounted flatscreen TV, a futon, and a desk for those who are inclined to check email while out-of-office.

The top floor offers ocean views, natural light, and a spacious floor plan for all to enjoy. The great room is furnished with a welcoming L-shaped sectional and two armchairs. The great room is adjacent to the dining area so whether you're enjoying some breakfast to start the day or catching up on the latest news, or whether you're sneaking a late night snack or about to finish up that late night movie, you aren't far from the rest of your group. The well-appointed kitchen has seating at the island, two sinks, ample counter space, two dishwashers and ovens that make both prep work, cooking time, and cleanup a breeze. A Keurig as well as a regular coffee maker are available. The dining area is located alongside a sliding glass door that opens to the deck with outdoor seating and ocean views. A second laundry room is located on this floor, as well as a half bath.

Pool: Pool heated by heat pump. Ambient air temperature of 60 degrees or higher is needed to heat the pool, meaning that if the temperature drops below 60 degrees the pump will not continue to heat. Max pool temperature is 80 degrees.

Community Pool & Tennis: Guests of this home have access to the private Ocean Lakes Swim & Tennis Club just down the road, as well as the tennis courts located in Ocean Sands Sections D, F, and J. The Section D court is located at the corner of Marlin Way and White Whale Way. The Section F court is located at the corner of Sandfiddler Trail and Surf Song Lane. The Section J court is located at Seabird Way on the other side of the Club's pool. A stocked fishing lake is located nearby, please note that a fishing license is required to fish.

Community note: Trailers, boats, and mobile homes/RVs are not allowed to be parked in the driveways of any Ocean Sands properties; parking is only permitted in the driveways of homes; golf carts and motorized carts/scooters/buggies are also prohibited in Ocean Sands.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
