Guests of this home can also enjoy access to the Ocean Sands community tennis courts.

The ground floor layout begins with a rec room, featuring a pool table, arcade machine with 71 games, cozy sofa seating, two TVs, and a wet bar with microwave, sink, and full refrigerator, ideal for additional snack and beverage storage. Ground floor bedding includes a room with two twin bunks, and a second room with two twins. These bedrooms each have a TV and they share a hall bath with the rec room. Outside, the private saltwater pool provides a refreshing place to cool off, there's a picnic table for afternoon snacks, and an outdoor speaker system means you'll always have tunes available. An outdoor "cabana bath" is conveniently located poolside. Spend long summer days beachside (community accesses are just two lots in each direction), afterwards unwinding in the private hot tub as the sun starts to set.

The elevator provides easy access to the mid-level (and on to the top floor), which offers a den with 55" TV, surround sound, and access to a covered deck. Three king bedrooms with TVs and private baths are available as bedding options on this floor. The first king offers deck access and a large bath with Whirlpool tub and tile shower. Laundry facilities are located on this floor.

Open and bright, the great room is an excellent place to gather at the end of long vacation days. Tall ceilings highlight this living space. Step onto the deck to enjoy your morning coffee. Spend relaxing evenings in the great room with a large TV and surround sound. Meal prep is made easy in the spacious kitchen, which offers 2 dishwashers, 2 coffee makers, and a Keurig machine. The dining table comfortably sits 10, and there is additional seating at the kitchen bar. The king bedroom on this level offers a TV and a special access private bath.

Pool: Saltwater pool is heated by heat pump. Ambient air temperature of 60 degrees or higher is needed to heat the pool, meaning that if the temperature drops below 60 degrees the pump will not continue to heat. Max pool temperature is 80 degrees.

Golf: Guests of this home can enjoy discounted green fees at Kilmarlic Golf Club, a Tom Steele designed course in Powell's Point. Enjoy exclusive K Club benefits compliments of the homeowner, including discounted green fees (reserve tee times in advance), and reduced costs for Wild Horse Tours, Kitty Hawk Kites adventures, and more. Tennis: Guests in Section D of Ocean Sands have access to tennis courts located in Sections D, F, and J. The Section D court is located at the corner of Marlin Way and White Whale Way. The Section F court is located at the corner of Sandfiddler Trail and Surf Song Lane. The Section J court is located at Seabird Way. (Please note that the Section J court is separate from the private Swim & Tennis Club courts and pool located nearby, which is not part of this home's amenities.)

Independently owned by a member of one of the Outer Banks’ oldest families, the Ben Franklin store is stocked with just about everything a visitor would need to go to the beach.

 

Ben Franklin stores were once part of a five-and-dime retail empire, with about 2,500 locations across the country in its heyday. As decades passed and the times and customers began to change, many closed their doors, leading to fewer than 150 of these nostalgic shops. Nags Head Ben Franklin, however, has withstood the test of time and adapted to the needs of its customers to provide a memorable shopping experience on the Outer Banks.

 

Debbie Terry Tolson, manager of the Ben Franklin location in Nags Head, recalls working with former owner Tommie Daniels. Daniels’ father, Moncie Daniels, started the business in downtown Manteo in the early 1900s. The Daniels family has been a longstanding fixture in the Outer Banks business community—Moncie even sold gas to the Wright brothers in 1903.

 

Tommie, with an excellent business mind, saw the opportunity the new Bypass presented and, in 1977, he opened the Nags Head location of Ben Franklin. He was one of the first businesses on the Bypass,” Tolson says.In addition to a new location, the Ben Franklin store saw a new group of customers.

 

“People would come from all around because Tommie had a little bit of everything—it was more like a five and 10 then,” Tolson explains. “As he went to the beach, he began to get more tourists, so he started catering more and more to visitors.”

 

Today, the 21,000-square-foot souvenir shop quickly catches the attention of anyone driving by thanks to the ocean-themed mural that decorates the façade of the building, painted by local artist Rob Snyder. This Ben Franklin location has become the must-stop shop for both first-time visitors to the area and generations of families who escape to the Outer Banks annually.

 

Tolson credits the great prices and friendly customer service to the success of the location, which keeps families returning.“People come in all the time and tell me, ‘my grandmother or my grandfather used to bring me here and now I’m bringing my children,’” she shares. “One of my favorite parts about working here is seeing the people come back year after year.”
