Welcome to Toes In The Water at Villas of Hatteras Landing! Rarely do getaways have a smaller getaway built into them, but that's exactly what you will find at Hatteras. While the Outer Banks is a place overflowing with culture and history, this village - located after driving down the sometimes pencil-thin straights of Highway 12 - is at the very bottom of Hatteras Island, itself one of the south barrier islands of the OBX. This community is one of fisherman, of sea-frosted homes, and independent methods for living life to the fullest, and, firmly nestled at the end of this community, resides the Villas of Hatteras Landing. With a King bed and Queen-sized sleeper sofa, this cozy little one-bedroom condo can accommodate up to four guests with ease. Throughout the interior, pictures of sea-life have been hung to remind vacationers of the nautical history that is prolific throughout the OBX and particularly prevalent in Hatteras. Flat-screen TVs adorn both the living room and bedroom to allow for comfy relaxation after a great day at the beach! The kitchen has also been outfitted to give the impression of a home-away-from-home. Dishes, cookware, and silverware are provided that will be enough to please the chef of any family. Happen to save some leftovers from one of the waterside grills or delis in Hatteras? Store the meal in the fridge and then heat it up in the microwave or mini-oven. There is never a lack of activities in this area. From spending a day at the beach (access across the street), lounging at the community pool, eating at delicious restaurants to learning more about the area's history and culture. Visit the towering Hatteras Lighthouse, or perhaps the local maritime museum focusing on shipwrecks and the history of these storied shores. Want to get up close and personal with the water? Take advantage of the Hatteras recreational diving scene! Come see for yourself why Hatteras and the Outer Banks as a whole has achieved such a stunning reputation among beachgoers and vacationers alike. We hope to see you soon! Enjoy the personal touch of an on-site office staffed by friendly locals who can answer your questions about services and local points of interest. This property has 2 parking spots for guests. **Private outdoor community pools and/or waterpark play areas are available, weather permitting, beginning on May 24th, 2025 and closing October 15th, 2025. Please know that pool operating dates are subject to change at any point, for any reason.** Check-In begins at 4pm. Your keyless entry code will begin granting access at this time. Check-Out is 10am.

If you’re craving the freshest fish, clams, crab, shrimp and oysters from local North Carolina waters, you’ll find them at the Lone Cedar Café. Since it first opened in 1996, Basnight’s has been the restaurant where all the movers and shakers in the state would eat when they visted the barrier islands. But its lineage is not the reason it’s become so popular. Lone Cedar can boast that it serves only fresh local seafood caught by local fishermen, as well as the freshest North Carolina produce available.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment. Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks. “As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.

Doggie heaven is the best way to describe this store, which moved from Kitty Hawk in 2011 to right across the street from Jockey’s Ridge. Sure there’s some things sold here that dogs would prefer didn’t exist --- like leashes and harnesses and bath supplies. The leashes and collars come in different sizes and some are guaranteed from destruction, including chewing. You can choose designer patterns, or college logos or OBX logos. Life jackets and doggie equipment like bowls and grooming gear are available. But mostly it is filled with doggie treats and a fantastic selection of dog toys. Because, after all, dogs come to the Outer Banks to play, too! There’s floating toys, (theoretically) indestructible toys, no-stuffing toys, squeaky toys, chewy toys, and lots of fetch toys. There are also bins and bins of homemade dog biscuits in different flavors that can purchased at the “biscuit bar.” The biscuits are made with human-grade ingredients and contain no salt, byproducts, artificial flavorings or preservatives. Baked fresh daily, the treats are available in various sizes. The store also offers biscuits for dogs with special dietary needs. A “bow-wow luau” is held weekly in the summer.

For Sara DeSpain, these fragile sand banks serve as more than artistic inspiration. The OBX is her physical and spiritual home and the very essence of the pieces she creates.Take for example her exquisite gold and silver pendants, formed from molds of actual sea-softened shell shards DeSpain gleans during her frequent beach combings, enhanced by either a natural pearl or rare gemstone. Even her souvenir beads are unique reflections of the Outer Banks. Mimicking fossils, formed with molds of tiny “ocean sculpted” seashells, these miniature masterpieces offer tourists and gift-givers lovely and very affordable keepsakes. Outer Banks’ premier jewelry designer, DeSpain began her career in 1974 and has since handcrafted her own creations. Besides being a creative designer and skilled goldsmith, DeSpain is a graduate gemologist. The rare and precious gems used in her work come from all over the world and represent the highest quality in gemstones available. It’s the perfect combination for finding that special anniversary gift or creating that one-of-a-kind engagement ring. In addition to showcasing her own work, DeSpain’s shop at Osprey Landing serves as a gallery for talented artists from across America, as well as other local designers she has handpicked for their skill and individuality in expression.DeSpain says her mission is “to help you find that one thing you can't live without.”

Themed on recycled and repurposed materials, Seagreen Gallery is one of the newest and most innovative art establishments on the Outer Banks. This is a great place to find a one-of-a-kind gift for someone who has everything.
Since its opening in 1961, Seaside Art Gallery has steadily expanded from one room into an impressive 12 rooms, filled with selections representing an eclectic range of artists, eras and mediums --- even masters like Rembrandt and James M. Whistler. Owned by the same family at the same location, the gallery is like an art museum that just keeps going and going, except nearly everything in it is for sale. The business is a reflection of more than 75 years of collecting that started with original owners Barbara and Chester Smith, and is lovingly continued by their daughter, Melanie Smith. Most rooms at Seaside feature themes, like seascapes and local scenes; Western and Native American art; modern art; antique pottery and vintage art; and Oriental art. An entire room is dedicated to a huge selection of estate jewelry, and another to a collection of original Audubon art. A miniature art show --- featuring work no larger than 40-inches square or ,for sculptures, 6 inches ----held annually at the gallery since June 1992 has gained international acclaim. Another show held in February since 2007 “Animals in Art” donates 10 percent of the sale of any animal-related work to the local animal shelter. Artist demonstration shows, lasting anywhere from a day to a week, are also held throughout the year. The owner is also a certified art appraiser.

With its ceiling covered with surfboards, the shop offers custom made Secret Spot Surf Boards and used boards, body boards, skim boards, as well as skate gear. Board rentals and surf lessons are also available. A wide range of designer surfwear can be found here, including Rip Curl, Sanuk, Roxy, Rainbow, Lost, Oakley, Electric and O’Neill. Bathing suits, hats, shoes, shorts, sunglasses, watches and T-shirts are available in a variety of sizes and styles for the entire family. This is not just a nostalgic fun store. Sure, it’s got the candy and toys that were popular in the good ol’ days. But more so, this is where you can find the classics --- the toys and sweets that have lasted for a reason. Is there any kid, to this day, that can resist a cap gun, obnoxious as they are?
An authentic Outer Banks treasure, this shell shop is one of the oldest family-owned stores in Nags Head, and it is without a doubt one of the most interesting. Opened in 1954 by Woodrow Stetson, a Coast Guardsman, and his wife Lucretia, the building burned down in 1965 and was rebuilt at the same location where it is today --- and is still operated by the same family. Visiting Shipwreck, located off the Nags Head-Manteo causeway, is like going to an art museum because the shells are like works of art. Imported from exotic locales all over the world including the Philippines, Tahiti, Australia, Indonesia and Thailand, all the shells are real.Check out the stunning (and valuable) Chamber Nautilus and the half Nautilus. Only Mother Ocean could create such a beauty. The store is worth a stop just to see the variety of spectacular shells that wash up on the world’s beaches (some of them, like Conch shells and Sand Dollars, can be found off the Outer Banks). The shells are displayed neatly on shelves, so you can pick them up and look closely before making a choice of what to buy. There is also a good selection of coral, which has become exceedingly rare and won’t be available for long. (Sea horses no longer are, the owner said.) The three large rooms are stuffed with fascinating sea-related items, including driftwood art; seashell mirrors, lamps, wind chimes and curtains; shark’s teeth and fish décor. In the back room, there’s an old bathtub filled with small shells for sale by the cupful. There is also a selection of fossils and rocks for sale, right near the massive whale jawbone hanging from the ceiling.
A full-service fabric shop with lots of quilting fabric choices.
A Mecca for jewelry and art with a working studio.
Think elegant. Imagine divine. Then hightail it to Sleeping In for your dreams to come true. This boutique located in downtown Manteo is filled with linens, accessories, gifts, clothing and more.
Opened in 1990, this store is still sometimes called an antique shop, but the owner said it is more accurately described as a quirky little shop that sells some antiques. What it is mostly known for is its signage that celebrates everything from the beach, to nature to universal life experiences.
There’s a lot more than “fishy” things at this store, which is much bigger than it looks from the road. With island music getting customers in the mood as soon as they step inside, the store evokes the layed-back tropical vibe and makes you want to crawl into a hammock and soak up the sun. The store is nearly bursting with colorful merchandise, literally filling every possible space from floor to ceiling. It features hand-crafted jewelry, art and furniture, much of it created by local artisans. How about some cool silver balls to hang from your ceiling? Or a sun wall ornament ---- offered in a range of sizes and prices? There are also island-themed T-shirts, dresses and sandals for sale. Suffice it to say that everything in this interesting store is beach-y, but with a bit more of a Caribbean or Pacific island edge. There is also a complete selection of Happy Birthday books and greeting cards. And of course there’s plenty of fun fish décor.
Something Old Something New is a unique vintage store in Kill Devil Hills, where you can get creative with your own unique style. Since 1975, Surfside Casuals has been selling a vast selection of bathing suits and beach accessories for men, women, girls and boys. Surfside, locally owned and operated by the same owner since day one, knows their inventory, and they happily help customers with fitting and other details about selecting the right suit for their needs. Sizes offered include juniors, women’s 4-24W and girl's 4-16. This upscale outlet store, one of the newer additions to the Tanger Outet Mall, focuses on the most popular and best selling items in the Talbot’s line, remade to be more affordable. Talbot’s made its reputation on its business wear for working women, but the merchandise at this store is strictly weekend or cruise wear to serve the vacationing women (or those who want to be!) Casual, classic and colorful, the apparel is available in petite and misses sizes, with some women’s sizes. All the styles are contemporary, feminine and practical, and none are seconds or leftovers from the previous year --- skirts, slacks, T-shirts, shorts and sweaters, all in various colors and patterns. And judging from the women customers who come to the outlet store, the clothing line appeals to all ages.
