OBX Waves is a seven-bedroom, three-story home located in Ocean Sands in Corolla. Being semi-oceanfront, you're only a short distance to the beach access (one lot south) before you're walking along the wooden boardwalk that leads to the sandy dunes and blue water for unbeatable beach days all week. OBX Waves has many amenities that take a vacation to the next level, including a private pool, hot tub, rec room, media den, outdoor showers, and multiple gathering areas for you and your group to simply enjoy time spent together. Ocean views are not to be missed from the top floor deck and the undeveloped land to the north allows for additional privacy while spending time outdoors.

The ground floor offers a rec room and three bedrooms. The rec room has a foosball table, a queen-size sleepsofa, a Smart TV, and a wet bar with a full-sized refrigerator, sink, and microwave. Two of the bedrooms have private baths. The queen bedroom has a private bath with a walk-in shower and the bedroom with a king bed has a private bath with a shower/tub. The third bedroom has two pyramid bunks and is across the hall from a full shared bath with a shower/tub. The shared bath has a door that accesses the pool area, serving as a cabana bath for those hanging out by the pool.

A sliding glass door from the rec room opens to a fully fenced private pool with poolside loungers. Outside the pool fence is a sheltered outdoor seating area and easy access to the gas grill.

First Floor

Central to the middle floor is a media den with a sofa, a Smart TV, and sliding glass door access to the middle floor deck with a hot tub. The remainder of the middle floor is dedicated to sleeping accommodations. Three bedrooms each have a private bath. One king has a private bath with a walk-in shower. The second king bedroom and the bedroom with two twin beds each have a private bath with a shower/tub.

The top floor gathering areas offer a cozy, coastal feel. As you walk up the steps to this level, the great room is to the right, the dining area is centrally located, and the kitchen is to the left. The great room is furnished with sofa and armchair seating around beautiful built-in cabinets with a mounted Smart TV, bookshelves, and a decorative fireplace. The kitchen is equipped with stainless steel appliances, including a refrigerator with a freezer drawer, a wine cooler, an electric range/oven, a microwave, and two dishwashers. There are two coffee makers available - one stardard drip and one Keurig. The island offers additional food prep space and bar-height seating for four. Sliding glass doors from the kitchen, dining area, and great room all lead out to an open deck with outdoor seating and ocean views. Steps from this level lead up to a cozy, lofted sitting area. A half bath is located on the stair landing between the middle and top floors.

A king bedroom is positioned on the southwest corner of this floor with a Smart TV and a private bath with two pedestal sinks and a walk-in shower.

Updates for 2024: Fresh interior paint, all new bedding and artwork in bedrooms, new king beds, can lights upgraded to LED on the top floor, the first floor deck and exterior stairs were replaced, new rugs in select rooms, decor changes on the top floor, updated pool lighting, pool deck extended for a larger space.

Please note: The great room fireplace is not available for guest use.

Pool: Pool heated by heat pump. Ambient air temperature of 60 degrees or higher is needed to heat the pool, meaning that if the temperature drops below 60 degrees the pump will not continue to heat. Max. pool temperature is 85. degrees.

Independently owned by a member of one of the Outer Banks’ oldest families, the Ben Franklin store is stocked with just about everything a visitor would need to go to the beach.

 

Ben Franklin stores were once part of a five-and-dime retail empire, with about 2,500 locations across the country in its heyday. As decades passed and the times and customers began to change, many closed their doors, leading to fewer than 150 of these nostalgic shops. Nags Head Ben Franklin, however, has withstood the test of time and adapted to the needs of its customers to provide a memorable shopping experience on the Outer Banks.

 

Debbie Terry Tolson, manager of the Ben Franklin location in Nags Head, recalls working with former owner Tommie Daniels. Daniels’ father, Moncie Daniels, started the business in downtown Manteo in the early 1900s. The Daniels family has been a longstanding fixture in the Outer Banks business community—Moncie even sold gas to the Wright brothers in 1903.

 

Tommie, with an excellent business mind, saw the opportunity the new Bypass presented and, in 1977, he opened the Nags Head location of Ben Franklin. He was one of the first businesses on the Bypass,” Tolson says.In addition to a new location, the Ben Franklin store saw a new group of customers.

 

“People would come from all around because Tommie had a little bit of everything—it was more like a five and 10 then,” Tolson explains. “As he went to the beach, he began to get more tourists, so he started catering more and more to visitors.”

 

Today, the 21,000-square-foot souvenir shop quickly catches the attention of anyone driving by thanks to the ocean-themed mural that decorates the façade of the building, painted by local artist Rob Snyder. This Ben Franklin location has become the must-stop shop for both first-time visitors to the area and generations of families who escape to the Outer Banks annually.

 

Tolson credits the great prices and friendly customer service to the success of the location, which keeps families returning.“People come in all the time and tell me, ‘my grandmother or my grandfather used to bring me here and now I’m bringing my children,’” she shares. “One of my favorite parts about working here is seeing the people come back year after year.”
