The ground level features ample parking, a carport, a fish station, an outdoor shower, a private hot tub, a fantastic unheated pool with lounge chairs, a sundeck, and a tropical bar.

The first level has a sheltered entry, a cabana room with a wet bar and a fridge, a laundry room, a bathroom, and the first queen bedroom. The second level features two gorgeous main bedrooms, each with a private bath. Wind down in the den with surround sound and a game table. Upstairs, you'll find an expansive great room with a powder room, cathedral ceilings, and views of the sound and a neighboring freshwater lake. Relax on cozy furnishings and enjoy music from the entertainment center, both inside and outside, on the deck. Sit comfortably while watching your favorite shows on the Roku-capable smart TVs throughout the home. The main floor TV also has cable, so your choices are always plentiful. An expansive main suite has a fantastic private bath and deck access. Woodwinds' superb kitchen with a breakfast bar and a nearby dining area has everything you need to satisfy the chef in your party.

  • The leaseholder must be present for the entire stay.
  • The private pool is open seasonally from April through mid-October. Dates are subject to change.
  • Guests have access to Kinnakeet Shores Pool & Tennis. You will receive an amenity pass during check-in to utilize the shared facility.
  • You will be required to sign an additional lease agreement upon making a booking, which will be sent to your email. You will not be able to check in until we have received your signature electronically. Please contact us directly if you do not receive this agreement.
  • This property is managed by Vacasa North Carolina LLC.
  • No pets are allowed at this vacation rental.
  • Parking notes: There is free parking available for 6 vehicles.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
