A great room, kitchen, and dining area are located on the top floor and offer an open floor concept which allows for you and your group to start and finish each day together and share all the memories made. The ground floor rec room is the hub for entertainment with several game options - pool, foosball, and an arcade game. The ground floor is designed to be a centralized spot to hang out, watch TV, or partake in one of the many games available to play - pool, foosball, and an arcade game. The ground floor rec room includes a kitchenette that is equipped with a full-sized refrigerator that has a built-in icemaker, a sink, a dishwasher, and a standalone icemaker. The counter space and storage offered by the kitchenette will allow for you to easily access food and drinks while hanging out in the rec room or by the pool. Bedding on the ground floor includes a pyramid bunk, a double bed with a trundle, and a queen sleepsofa. The top level of the detached garage offers a king bed.

Enter into the backyard and pool area through sliding glass doors where you will be engulfed in greenery and tranquility. The amenities you will enjoy while spending time outdoors at Two Buoys are boundless. The pool is sparkling, the hot tub is bubbling, the high-top table offer the perfect spot to dine al fresco or sit and sip on a cold drink. Relax by a fire built in the custom firepit (bring own firewood). All that, along with an outdoor ping-pong table and cornhole for endless rounds of competition. The fully fenced, private backyard is one that you and your group are sure to enjoy, all while being less than a half-mile from the Atlantic Ocean. Ready for some beach time? Grab a towel, put on your favorite pair of shades, and take a stroll down the street to the sand and surf. When you return to the house after a day of splashing in the waves, rinse off in the outdoor bathroom that is located by the pool and includes an enclosed shower, sink, and toilet.

As you walk up the steps to the front entrance of Two Buoys, you land on the wraparound deck that runs the length of the front of the house and circles around to the back, overlooking the spectacularly designed backyard and pool area. Upon entering the first floor, there is a sitting area to the left that is furnished with sofa seating (queen sleepsofa) and a desk. There are four bedrooms on the first floor; one king bedroom with private bath, one queen bedroom with private bath, and a king and a queen bedroom that share a bathroom. One of the queen bedrooms has direct access to the deck through sliding glass doors. There is access to a half bath and laundry facilities on this level.

The top floor of Two Buoys is drenched in natural light, bright white features, and welcoming furnishings. The great room, dining area, and kitchen all share an open concept floor plan that make it an ideal location for you and your group to enjoy spending time together over meals and meaningful conversations. There is a sliding glass door that leads out onto the deck, as well as a door by the dining table that puts you onto the screened-in porch area that flows from one side of the wraparound deck to the other. The top-notch gourmet kitchen was thoughtfully designed and equipped with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, a Keurig, and plenty of storage for all you'd need during your stay. The appliances include a refrigerator, microwave, 6-burner stove with a pot-filler, wine fridge, and a warming drawer. The kitchen island has a double sink, dishwasher, and offers bar-height seating for four. There is a half bath conveniently located on the top floor for those who are spending time on this level. The bedding on this floor includes a king bedroom with a private bath with jetted tub/shower, and sliding door access to the deck.

Independently owned by a member of one of the Outer Banks’ oldest families, the Ben Franklin store is stocked with just about everything a visitor would need to go to the beach.

 

Ben Franklin stores were once part of a five-and-dime retail empire, with about 2,500 locations across the country in its heyday. As decades passed and the times and customers began to change, many closed their doors, leading to fewer than 150 of these nostalgic shops. Nags Head Ben Franklin, however, has withstood the test of time and adapted to the needs of its customers to provide a memorable shopping experience on the Outer Banks.

 

Debbie Terry Tolson, manager of the Ben Franklin location in Nags Head, recalls working with former owner Tommie Daniels. Daniels’ father, Moncie Daniels, started the business in downtown Manteo in the early 1900s. The Daniels family has been a longstanding fixture in the Outer Banks business community—Moncie even sold gas to the Wright brothers in 1903.

 

Tommie, with an excellent business mind, saw the opportunity the new Bypass presented and, in 1977, he opened the Nags Head location of Ben Franklin. He was one of the first businesses on the Bypass,” Tolson says.In addition to a new location, the Ben Franklin store saw a new group of customers.

 

“People would come from all around because Tommie had a little bit of everything—it was more like a five and 10 then,” Tolson explains. “As he went to the beach, he began to get more tourists, so he started catering more and more to visitors.”

 

Today, the 21,000-square-foot souvenir shop quickly catches the attention of anyone driving by thanks to the ocean-themed mural that decorates the façade of the building, painted by local artist Rob Snyder. This Ben Franklin location has become the must-stop shop for both first-time visitors to the area and generations of families who escape to the Outer Banks annually.

 

Tolson credits the great prices and friendly customer service to the success of the location, which keeps families returning.“People come in all the time and tell me, ‘my grandmother or my grandfather used to bring me here and now I’m bringing my children,’” she shares. “One of my favorite parts about working here is seeing the people come back year after year.”
