Overview

If you're looking for a beautifully decorated home with comfortable furnishings, impressive features, desirable amenities, and Currituck Sound views, Shandy's Sunset is your pick! This 7-bedroom home offers over 3,700 square feet and three levels of living space. The top floor features an open floor plan with the great room, kitchen, and dining area all sharing a large gathering space where you and your group can spend time together, making memories to last all year. Each bedroom is spacious, comfortable, and offers a Smart TV and a private bath. The ground floor rec room allows those with a competitive spirit to game away on the shuffleboard table or pool table.

The inside of Shandy's Sunset is remarkable, but where we think you're going to want to spend your vacation days is lounging by the pool, enjoying the views on one of the decks, or strolling along the walking path that runs parallel to the Sound. The fully fenced private pool area has a large pool that can be heated, a poolside hot tub, many poolside loungers, chairs, and an outdoor sectional, as well as a cabana bar with a sink, ceiling fan, and four counter height chairs. Past the pool area is the Currituck Sound; a community pier is available at the end of the yard, and a walking/bike path runs parallel to the Sound for peaceful morning or evening walks.

Ground Floor

  • Rec room with kitchenette
  • Two queens with private baths

The ground floor has a centrally located rec room with a pool table, shuffleboard table, a loveseat, a large mounted Smart TV, and a kitchenette equipped with a full-sized refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and sink. Two queen bedrooms are available on this level. Both bedrooms have mounted Smart TVs and private baths with shower/tubs.

Sliding glass doors from the rec room and the soundfront queen bedroom lead out to the pool area and onto the Sound. The private pool can be heated (for an additional fee) and offers splish-splashing fun for the entire group. Relax your mind while relaxing your body in the bubbling poolside hot tub or belly up to the cabana bar that has counter-height seating, a sink, and a ceiling fan. An outdoor shower stall allows guests to wash the day away before retreating inside for the evening.

Awful Arthur's Oyster Bar

Welcome to the home of the happy oyster where for over 40 years the oyster has been our world. The Outer Banks only authentic oyster bar is the place to enjoy sensational fare from the sea washed down with your favorite brew or cocktail. We serve by the peck, pound, and dozen, raw or steamed to perfection. Kicked back casual, down to earth friendly staff, and reasonable prices make Awful Arthur’s Oyster Bar the all-time favorite of locals and travelers alike.

The idea wasn’t to set out and establish a new concept restaurant on the Outer Banks, but that’s exactly what Awful Arthur’s owner Jo Whitehead and her late husband, Jay, accomplished more than 35 years ago when they opened the area’s first authentic oyster bar.

Awful Arthur’s opened in May 1984 on the Outer Banks. “We embraced the concept of an authentic copper top bar with the idea of it being a major drawing card and it still is,” explains Whitehead. “I get oysters wherever they are local. We follow the warm waters.”

Just across from the ocean, in Kill Devil Hills, oyster season is year-round at Awful Arthur’s. Diners can take a seat at the copper-topped bar to observe the staff shucking oysters, served raw or steamed, along with shrimp, crab legs and clams all steamed to perfection.

It’s not just the raw bar that’s earned Awful Arthur’s both local and national recognition, including being named one of America’s greatest oyster bars by Coastal Living magazine. The restaurant is a seafood-lover’s paradise, offering the freshest catches available.
