The ground level features a recreation room with foosball, air hockey, Ping-Pong, a big-screen smart TV with Netflix streaming, a wet bar with a mini-fridge and a full-size fridge, shares a bath with a room with two DuoBunks. A bedroom with two singles and a laundry area complete this level. Play a game of 'wild horse' at the basketball goal outside!

On the mid-level, you'll find five bedrooms: A primary bedroom, two queen bedrooms with a connecting bath, and another bedroom that shares a connecting bath with a room with a bunk set.

The top level features a light-filled great room, a big-screen smart TV with Netflix streaming, a dining area, a kitchen with granite countertops and double ovens; a half-bath and an adjoining beautiful queen primary bedroom. Enjoy a meal on the front deck picnic table or relax in the top deck hot tub with awesome sunset views!

Some of the amazing amenities offered include private unheated pool that's one of the largest private pools in Whalehead, Polywood loungers and Adirondacks, a hot tub, WiFi, nine TVs, two DVD players, Netflix streaming on smart TVs (great room and rec room), a wet bar with a mini-fridge, an additional full-size refrigerator on the ground floor, Ping-Pong, air hockey, foosball, a basketball goal, beautiful sunrise and sunset views from the top deck, and beach access within 190 yards.

Things to Know

  • For January and February bookings, please contact the property management company to ensure the hot tub is available.
  • You will be required to sign an additional lease agreement upon making a booking, which will be sent to your email. You will not be able to check in until we have received your signature electronically. Please contact us directly if you do not receive this agreement.
  • Private Pool Dates: The private pool is open May 1st through October 15th. The private pool is unavailable outside of these dates.
  • This property is managed by Vacasa North Carolina LLC.
  • 2 dogs welcome in this home. No other animals are allowed without specific Vacasa approval.
  • Parking notes: There is free parking available for 6 vehicles.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
