Mermaid’s Lair is a great value for families that love the beach! Private pool has lots of room for the kids to play around the pool while adults soak up the sun. Best features are the view, decks and that great dune top deck. . .it’s huge! Imagine sitting there with your morning coffee watching the sun rise. . .or relaxing with a drink watching the kids surf! What? You are going inside? The LCD TV in the Great Room is perfect for movies and all bedrooms have LCD TVs too for private quiet moments for you, or so the kids can play their games while you catch up on your reading. There is more than enough room for all to eat meals together and the top level has plenty of space for the whole crowd to mingle and enjoy just being together. The screened porch is calling you for board games or cards. . .this property is the one to bond, get plenty of fresh ocean air and enjoy all the beach has to offer.

Mermaid’s Lair is a fisherman’s paradise! Just a couple minutes from Oregon Inlet, or drive a few more to get to Pirate’s Cove Marina. While you are at the property you are closer to the wide-open spaces of the National Seashore BUT just minutes from restaurants, shopping, groceries, historic sites and more.

Private Pools are open from May 2, 2025 until October 12, 2025 and May 1, 2026 until October 11, 2026. Pool heat is not an option for this property. Hot tubs are available year-round. Gas fireplaces are shut down from May 15 until September 15.


All Outer Banks Blue properties provide bed linens and bath towels for a small fee added to every reservation. We provide 1 bath towel and washcloth per advertised occupant. We provide 1 hand towel and 1 bar of soap per bathroom sink. We also provide kitchen towels. Beds are made prior to your arrival, and we provide a starter supply of toilet paper, bathroom soap, paper towels, and dishwasher detergent.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
