OCEANFRONT Hatteras — Lighthouse Rd. — A dream catcher’s circular shape symbolizes the uninterrupted flow of life as the moon sets and the sun rises each day. Now close your eyes and imagine a place that inspires you to thrive to a similar cadence. Open them and find yourself at DREAM CATCHER BY THE SEA, a spectacular nine-bedroom/eight-full and two-half bath home where all of your desires for a dream vacation naturally fall into place.

Located in the walkable and bicycle-friendly Hatteras by the Sea subdivision, guests have access to all of its amenities, including a pool, nature walk, and gorgeous beach. But you may find it hard to leave a home that serves as its own private resort. A glass block waterfall lulls the adults into the jetted spa end of a enormous private pool, while the shallow tanning ledge at the other end entices the younger set to make a splash of their own. Rinse off in the outdoor shower after practicing your complimentary throws on the driveway basketball hoop and claim a seat at the shaded poolside bar while you sync up some tunes. Food to go with those drinks? Yes, please, thanks to the poolside gas grille and a full kitchenette with a refrigerator, sink, and microwave located in the adjacent game room. Here you will also find a pool table, foosball table, and a wall-mounted Intelligent TV. Microwave some popcorn and settle in next door, where a 16-seat home theater features a 110” screen and surround sound. Also on this level are a king and queen master bedroom.

Take the elevator to level two and discover five more bedrooms. There are two king master bedrooms with access to an oceanfront deck; one bedroom with two pyramid bunk beds; one with two single beds and another king bedroom with deck access. The laundry room is located on this level as are two full hallway baths, one that features a roll-in shower making it accessible-friendly. A 6-person hot tub on the oceanside deck invites all to appreciate a relaxing soak to a serenade of ocean waves. Another king master with a jetted tub and private deck access is located on the third level. The final bedroom, a sizable king master suite with a jetted tub and private oceanfront deck is located on the fourth level and is connected to an executive office suite to keep your work/life balance in check. All of the bedrooms feature Intelligent TVs.

It’s on the third level where you'll find the reason everybody is drawn to the spectacular great room —with its striking ocean vistas revealed from floor-to-ceiling picture windows and a furnished deck that extends the length of the home. There’s room for more than one prepare in the roomy and freshly reimagined gourmet kitchen featuring two of everything: oven, stove, microwave, sink, dishwasher, refrigerator, and where a six-seat breakfast bar attracts early risers for that first cup of coffee. Make it a group affair and prepare a feast that can be served at two eight-seat dining areas. After dinner, pull a cold one from the wine cooler in the bar area and wind down the evening at the card table in the sunroom, snuggled on the couch in front of the Intelligent TV or on the deck as the stars take over the nighttime sky. Explore room after room filled with décor for your home and coastal fashions for both men and women. Don’t forget the gourmet market, or shop our beautiful linens for your bedroom and bath. We also feature coastal books and fine art, or just a whimsical fun gift to bring home to family and friends. Stop by soon and don’t forget to try our estate grown wines in our stores or visit our vineyard and winery, Sanctuary Vineyards, located adjacent to the original Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
