Excited to cast a line in Wanchese? That’s what Doghouse Sportfishing is here for! With Captain Britton Shackelford at the helm, you’re in knowledgeable and experienced hands.
Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, Bigeye Tuna, Blackfin Tuna, Bluefin Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Skipjack Tuna, Tilefish, Black Seabass, Blue Marlin, White Marlin, and more inhabit these waters, depending on conditions.
Depending on the species you’re after, you may find yourself spinning, popping, trolling, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Capt. Britton can also have you kite fishing.
Families making a day of it will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! Be sure to ask if child-sized life vests are available, otherwise you should bring your own. Customers are encouraged to bring snacks so that everyone stays happy and energized!
Your vessel for the day is a custom 61’ Buddy Harris Custom Carolina Sportfisher with a capacity for 24 passengers. It comes with outriggers, downriggers, a fighting chair, and all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. There’s a toilet on board for your convenience. What’s more, this vessel is wheelchair accessible.
You’ll find rods, reels, and tackle waiting for you, along with lures. Live bait is available, but you should ask the captain whether you’ll be catching it yourself.
Trips are run with the help of a First Mate. Mates work hard to make your trip count, so a 15–20% tip is customary.
The charter boat covers your fishing license, so all you have to do is show up ready for a good time! Keep in mind that some fish may have harvest limits or closed seasons. Simply ask and your captain can tell you more.
Some essentials to bring are sunblock (non-spray), bottled water, and sunglasses. If you’d like to bring other drinks, just ask. Alcohol is allowed in moderation,
