Located in the heart of Kinnakeet Shores, this home is within walking distance of a huge grocery store, multiple eateries, frozen yogurt and shopping. For more adventure, ride your bicycle along the peaceful side street or on the village-long multi-use path to the Avon Fishing Pier, among other shopping and recreation options. From the concrete drive and under-home parking, enter the home into the game room with 8 ft. pool table and 50" flat screen TV above the wet bar with three stools and a bar height bistro table with two chairs. An adjacent bunk room provides accommodations for the younger lads and lasses with a semi-private full bath shared with the game room. Step out the door to discover the jewel of the property, the broad pool area and featuring one of the biggest heated swimming pools in the area, a tiki bar, and tons of seating. It is located on the back side of the home for privacy from the street. The crews' quarters can be found on the mid-level of the home among four sizable bedrooms including two master bedrooms with private full baths, and two that share a full bathroom between them (queen, 2 singles). This queen bedroom has access to a private deck while the other three provide access to the wrap-around mid-level deck. The bubbly 6-person hot tub can be found on the deck outside the king master bedroom. The captain's master bedroom is located on the top level of the home and features access to a private deck, a huge flat screen TV with Blu-ray® player and a private bath with Jacuzzi tub. The great room astounds with high, cathedral ceilings, comfortable seating around the enormous flat screen TV with Blu-ray player, and tons of light coming through the many windows. Nautical treasures decorate the room, hand-crafted by a local island artisan. Find something new each time you visit! The kitchen is well-appointed with everything the group will need to prepare and savor meals together around the 10-person dining table. Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
