About this Property

Come to the quiet, relaxing beaches of South Nags Head and you will find that Sunset Bay is aptly named. Located on a safe, child-friendly cul-de-sac overlooking the Cape Hatteras National Seashore which offers miles of nature, outrageous sunsets, and no competing vacationers directly behind the property! A very short walk across a lightly-traveled road puts you on the beaches of South Nags Head where hours of fun in the sun can be had by the whole family.

They say location is everything, and Sunset Bay has it all! This home is close to the Bodie Island Lighthouse, the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, and Hatteras Island.

It will be hard to tear the kids away from the beach, but it won't be too hard with them knowing they can play in the private saltwater 12x18 pool, soak in the poolside hot tub, or relax in the covered hammock as soon as they get home! The hot tub pump and heater have been replaced for the 2025 rental season. A cover lifter has also been installed to make it easier for you to open and close the hot tub.

Although you will enjoy the quiet, natural setting relaxing on the decks of Sunset Bay, you can also hop in the car and explore the shopping, restaurants, grocery stores, walking out over the Atlantic on Jennette's Pier, or go sightseeing on historic Roanoke Island - all less than 15 minutes away! Water sports abound in Nags Head and for the adventurous spirit, there is hang-gliding off of Jockey's Ridge State Park, paddle boarding or parasailing in the sound, along with jet-ski and boat rentals for days of fun-filled splashing - again, just minutes away!

Enjoy a cozy "flex room" on the mid-level, perfect for quiet morning coffee using the Keurig coffee maker (regular coffee maker provided as well), gaming for the kids, or a hideaway to capture that well-deserved vacation nap. A beach cart is provided to make hauling gear for your day a little easier.

This property is pet-friendly, but please no cats, and no more than two small dogs or 1 large dog no more than 80 pounds.

The private saltwater pool is open from the 2nd week of May to the 2nd week of October.

Stop by soon and don’t forget to try our estate grown wines in our stores or visit our vineyard and winery, Sanctuary Vineyards, located adjacent to the original Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
