If you’re looking for a delicious diner where you can find down home, southern-style cookin’, Bob’s Grill in Kill Devil Hills is a must visit. This unique, retro-style diner serves breakfast and lunch all day.  Just don’t let the restaurant’s catch phrase “Eat and get the hell out!” scare you, the wait staff is friendly and offers southern hospitality to match the restaurant’s menu.Breakfast and lunch are served daily from 7am until 2pm. For breakfast, you’ll find a variety of hotcake offerings, including traditional hotcakes, chocolate chip, blueberry and daily specials with unique flavors. Omelet selection includins All-American, Western, Mexican and Greek, and others. The lunch menu offers a variety of soups, salads and sandwiches, including the BBQ Chicken Sandwich, Philly Steak and Cheese and Yellowfin Tuna Sandwich. Since its opening in early January 2012, Café Lachine has become a popular stop for fresh deli sandwiches and salads, and truly delectable homemade baked treats and breads. Better still, the menu, written on chalk on the wall, is interesting, healthy and reasonably priced.  Cold sandwiches include chicken or egg salad, BLT and turkey and guacamole with pepper jack.  Hot sandwiches range from shrimp po’ boy on hoagie, pesto grilled chicken on brioche and Cuban press.  Other choices include orzo pesto salad, fruit salad and tabbouleh salads. All food is made on the premises. Box lunches, which change daily, are also available, with a choice of one sandwich (chicken salad or egg salad croissant or turkey and provolone wrap), and a cup of soup, a side, dessert and a canned drink.  Breakfast is served all day, and coffee and specialty drinks are also offered.  Starting out with just a few tables, this attractive eatery on the north corner of Outer Banks Mall soon expanded next door with a small dining room.

Dinner is just great food, and you’ll have to come inside to get that.  With its comfortable booths, black and white tile flooring and an abundance of windows, this eatery offers a nice meld of metro/beach atmosphere. Check out the bar with all the pebbles ---it actually looks like the beach! And if the weather is nice, you can sit outside at one of the round, umbrella-shielded tables and enjoy watching the butterflies flitting between big pots of flowers and basil and rosemary lining the patio. An extension of Coastal Provisions Market in Southern Shores, the restaurant serves a “quick-serve” breakfast until 11 a.m.

Located in the center of Ocracoke village, Dajio showcases the best of local ingredients in a fresh and distinctive menu that borrows inspiration from the heart of the island. With a mouth-watering array of brunch, lunch, and dinner items, food fans will always find something to crave at this popular eatery that has plenty of flavor to go around.

Serving Hickory-Smoked Barbecue & Deli Sandwiches for over 25 Years, Duck Deli is as popular and as quaint as its location. The Deli was opened in 1988 by a retired PA dentist, Ronald Forlano, and his son Ken. Today it remains a family venture with Ken, now known as the Deli Llama, still running the business, along with two other brothers and the oldest opening another Duck Deli in PA.Duck Deli boasts “outrageous barbecue” and the “best breakfasts in Duck, which are served every morning of the year from 8-11 am. Available from 11 am to closing are BBQ meals and platters, made with the deli’s own hickory-smoked, pulled chicken, pork or beef. You can also get spicy wings, ribs, crab cakes and ½ or ¼ smoked chicken, as well as meat and veggie subs and sandwiches. All platters come with hushpuppies and a choice of two from a great selection of sides.The owners “take pride” in the smoked meats they cook daily on site. And they “love that you love” their sauces, which are derived from local recipes and enhanced with “Duck Deli flair.” You’ll find that same flair in the deli’s selection of child to adult T-shirts (up to 2X), available in-store..Parking and seating space is limited at this often packed deli, but extra parking across the street and take out are always available. Open ’til 9 pm in-season, the deli closes late afternoon in the fall and spring.Heading north, just past the Duck water tower, on the right, is where you‘ll find this great little deli in the heart of Duck.

Duck Donuts has four convenient locations ready to serve you. Duck Donuts was established in 2006, and has become a favorite of locals and tourists alike. Donuts are made fresh and handed to you to dress in your favorite toppings. Toppings include cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, glaze, vanilla, chocolate, maple, strawberry, lemon, peanut butter icing, shredded coconut, chocolate and rainbow sprinkles, and peanuts.

If you enjoy a good cup of coffee and a good book, a stop into Duck’s Cottage Coffee & Bookshop is a must. Located in a historic gun shop next to the pond in the Waterfront Shops in Duck, a visit to Duck’s Cottage truly is an experience to savor. Cozy and welcoming, Morning View offers a variety of fresh-roasted coffee and organic teas and a great place to sip and enjoy. There are comfortable chairs and a few tables where customers can relax and chat, or browse the Internet ---- there’s free WiFi available.  It’s no surprise that the shop has become a favorite local gathering spot. Coffee is roasted on the premises by the owner, who is a master roaster, so the place smells wonderful.  The selection of coffee, all Free Trade and/or organic, include beans from Africa, Central and South America, and the South Pacific and Indonesia. Whatever the bean, all the coffee is roasted specifically to bring out the optimum flavor. Specialty drinks like espresso, mocha, latte, steamed milk and hot chocolate are also available.  A variety of roasted coffee beans can be purchased from the store.

Nags Head Pier offers some of the best fishing on the east coast. Its proximity to the Gulf Stream provides access to a great variety of inshore fish, and the Pier Shop furnishes all the equipment needed to catch them. The Shop’s experts can even offer a few tips, along with the bait, tackle and rod and reel rentals.Not only will the pier help you catch the fish, the Nags Head Pier Restaurant with cook them up - fried, grilled or blackened - and serve them to you with fries, cole slaw and hushpuppies. The restaurant is a great place to come early for breakfast and watch the sunrise and specializes in Carolina-style cooking, offering fresh seafood and other dishes for lunch and dinner, with entrees priced from $7.95 to $24.95.But you don’t have to fish to enjoy the pier. After a filling dinner, you can take the kids or that special someone for a lazy stroll down the pier for only $1.50 per person, with kids sightseeing at half price. Day and season passes for fishing are also available.The Pier Shop also sells souvenirs and Nags Head Pier caps and T-shirts that can be ordered online as well. The pier is at milepost 12, has ample parking and is open to fishin 24 hours a day throughout the spring, summer and fall. The Pier House is open from 6 a.m. to midnight.

At Outer Banks Coffee Company we take our coffee seriously. We’ve been in the coffee business since 1994 and on the Outer Banks since 2000, craft roasting small batches of the world’s best Arabica beans. When you come in our store you’ll see our big green roaster right there out front, not tucked away in a warehouse somewhere… you can see the process unfold right in front of your eyes, and maybe you’ll get to smell (and hear!) the coffees as they tumble down into the cooling bin. We are proud of our roasting style – a slow gas fired roast that creates big mellow flavors that are never bitter. We think that after you try it you’ll be hooked, as so many others already are.

It is impossible to match the coolness of dining on a fishing pier, and the Pier House Restaurant is one of the few that offers the experience.  What’s great is you can come right off the beach, or the pier, and enjoy a satisfying Outer Banks-style meal. Try to score a window table for the best view, but any place in the restaurant provides a unique experience. The food is classic Carolina, including big breakfasts of eggs or hotcakes. Lunch and dinner selections include burgers, sandwiches, hushpuppies, cole slaw and fresh North Carolina seafood.  And here’s a way to guarantee you’re eating fresh seafood: Catch a fish on the pier, and the restaurant will clean it, cook it for you however way you like it, and serve it up with fries, hushpuppies and slaw.  Dinners even offer an evening stroll on the pier.

Located at the Nags Head Golf Links, Player’s Grille is not just for golfers. Anyone is welcome to dine at this classy, but comfortable restaurant with a full bar.  Not only does it have a lovely setting, the Grille itself is open and airy, with large windows that provide great views of the sunset over Roanoke Sound.  The extensive menu includes a good variety of sandwiches and wraps and the ever-popular fish tacos. 

Feast on a distinct variety of small plates and appetizers at this unique eatery that’s tucked away in one of Ocracoke’s newest and more popular hang-out spots, the 1718 Brewery.  Plum Pointe Kitchen offers an extensive menu of delicious fare that can’t be found anywhere else, and which pairs perfectly with the brewery’s on-site and rotating selection of craft beers.

Sam and Omie’s Restaurant is a great place to eat after a day at the beach. Or before you go to the beach. Or, for that matter, before or after a visit to Jennette’s Pier, which is right across the street, on the beach. As authentic Outer Banks as you can get, this small family-run restaurant at Milepost 16.5 off the Beach Road in Nags Head originally opened in 1937 to serve fishermen breakfast before they went fishing. With bead board walls, low wooden ceilings and gleaming wood plank floors, Sam and Omie’s still has the look and feel of the old Outer Banks cottages. Photographs of fishermen displaying their catch and some old Nags Head scenes line the walls. Carolina blue vinyl cushioning in the wooden booths adds to the beachy-y atmosphere, and the polished wood bar is a favorite spot for locals and visitors to socialize over a cold beer.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served most of the year, offering favorite Outer Banks seafood dishes, burgers, omelets, salads, sandwiches and barbeque.    Be ready to wait in the summer, but it’s worth it. There’s even a homey screened-in porch with wooden benches to sit on and enjoy the seabreezes while you wait.

Sharky's OBX Grill is a great spot for a filling meal in between beach trips or Outer Banks explorations, with a short but sweet menu that offers a little something for everyone in a hungry crowd.

When you’re too tired to get out of your car, or you just are too sandy and wet, Sonic is the answer. Famous for it’s car-side service,  drivers can just pull up to the menu at one of the stalls, review the choices and then order with the push of a button. Before you know it, a carhop delivers the meals right to the drivers’ side of your vehicle, and you pay the carhop with cash, or pay the machine with your credit or debit cards. Offerings are typical fast food: cheeseburgers, fries and chicken, but some loyal customers swear it’s better than most.  And there is also a hot dog menu, with several regional choices and corn dogs. And there’s a kids’ menu, and breakfast burritos, French toast and egg and cheese sandwiches are available any time. Sweet tooth’s can be satisfied with a vast number of ice creams options in the Frozen Zone,  including sundaes, shakes and mixed-up “blasts.” And after 8 p.m., a menu of shakes can be had for half the price! Then there is the vast menu of Sonic specialties that cool you from the inside out: six flavors of limeades, including cherry, cranberry and strawberry; six flavors of fruit slushes, a mix of fruit and slush, including pineapple island breeze and lemonberry fruit; and seven flavors of the famous slushes, including cherry, orange and watermelon.

Whether you need a little morning fuel for a full day of fishing on the Avon Pier, or just want a tasty and convenient lunch in between beach trips, Stu’s Food Truck in Avon has the ideal locale and a tempting menu to satisfy your cravings. Located in central Avon, this local favorite food truck is quickly becoming a popular go-to for visitors of all tastes, thanks to its hefty menu, downhome flavors, and southern staples that are sure to appease every appetite.

Decommisioned in the 1950s, it was the fifth U.S. station built south of the Virginia line and one of a string whose crews saved shipwrecked victims, their cargos and sometimes the ships from the often treacherous waters along the NC coast. Caffey’s nautical artifacts and historic memorabilia now decorate this authentic Outer Banks treasure, listed in the National Register of historic places.The restaurant serves three meals daily, with a rare breakfast menu full of old-fashioned treats, including steel-cut oatmeal, buttermilk biscuits, French toast with real Vermont maple syrup and a smorgasboard of an omelet.
