Featuring a unique 4,000 square foot floor plan, this design has a wonderful flow between bedroom suites, ample amenities, and spacious family gathering areas. Traditional cedar shakes, hardwoods, and rich, detailed paneling evoke a classic Carolina style, and the quintessential furnishings and decor create a "home away from home" warmth throughout your vacation stay. Enjoy ocean views from loft sun decks, relax on pristine beaches, and enjoy quick access to search for the wild horses that roam Carova's four-wheel drive beaches. Guests will appreciate the added touches of a beach cart, beach chairs, an umbrella, and pool toys. Historic sights, shopping, dining, and outdoor recreation are just minutes away from this special vacation haven.

Let the good times roll in the spacious ground level recreation room, perfectly outfitted for spirited competition with a pool table, foosball table, 4-person card table, and drink ledge with seating for three. This room includes a media area with sofa seating, two Luv Sacs, a Wii (bring own games), book-lined shelves, and a flatscreen for TV viewing. A kitchenette services this area with a sink, microwave, and refrigerator with icemaker for drink and snack storage. A full bathroom is available to those in the rec room and serves as a cabana bath for the outdoors.

A variety of charming bedrooms are found on the ground floor. Each offers a TV, tall windows, a private bathroom, and sliding glass doors leading outside. Sleeping options include two suites with king beds and twin sleepsofas in each, one with a queen, and a fourth bedroom is furnished with two twin beds. Laundry facilities are located on this level.

The resort-style outdoor amenities feature a private saltwater pool and kiddie pool with faux stone features surrounding the crystal blue refreshing waters. A grill station is comprised of a gas grill, two charcoal grills, and a wooden stand with two shelves for food platters. Casual outdoor meals can be enjoyed at a family-style outdoor dining table for ten located under a shady pergola. The poolside cabana offers a respite from the sun and is equipped with a sink, mini-fridge, cooling ceiling fan, bar seating for four, and two outdoor showers. At day's end, gather in the sheltered hot tub to relax and revitalize before retiring each evening.

The living area offers sofa and armchair seating, a seasonal gas fireplace with stone surround, and a mounted TV. A half bath is centrally located. Doors open to sun and covered decks furnished with chairs, rockers, and a relaxing porch swing to savor salty sea breezes. On the other side of the great room is a wide screened-in porch that embodies Southern Comfort by featuring high ceilings, cooling ceiling fans, and a family-style outdoor dining table for sixteen guests. A kitchen overlooks the great room and is equipped with ample storage and countertops, a refrigerator with icemaker, range/stove, microwave, dishwasher, a double sink as well as an additional bar sink, Keurig, regular coffee maker, slow cooker, casual bar seating for four, and a TV. A dining table offers formal dining for twelve guests. Bedroom accommodations on this level include a king suite with a private bath, TV, and a twin sleepsofa. A bedroom with a queen bed and a flatscreen TV shares a full central bathroom with a room equipped with a daybed with a trundle, desk, chair, and private balcony.

Climb to the lofted den for a private retreat offering two furnished decks with memorable ocean views. This space has high ceilings and is furnished with a twin sleepsofa, armchairs, flatscreen TV, and a game table with four chairs.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

 

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

 

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
