Bring your rods and reels and discover how incredible the fishing on the Outer Banks can be when the temps cool and the fall season rolls around by signing up for the Hatteras Island Surf Fishing Challenge. This popular fishing tournament takes place all across the islands, and allows anglers to pick a favorite spot, cast a line, and hopefully reel in a few big catches, as well as a few hefty cash prizes, along the way.
The fishing tournament features four divisions - Bluefish, Flounder/Black Drum, Sea Mullet, and Spanish/Pompano – with thousands of dollars in cash and prizes distributed to the winners. To encourage participants to bring the whole family down to experience that camaraderie firsthand, the tournament offers got Junior, Senior, and Lady angler prizes, and the heaviest of any of the four eligible species weighed in by those anglers will earn a guaranteed $50.
The tournament ends with an Awards Ceremony and Tournament Raffle at the Camp Hatteras in the tri-villages. Five weigh-in locations are located throughout the island for participants, and up to 200 anglers can sign up and join in the competition.
