The National Park Service offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore one of the Outer Banks’ most iconic structures from an entirely new perspective. The Bodie Island Lighthouse Full Moon Tours take place during the summertime and early fall, with a 30-minute ascent up the 219 steps to the lighthouse. Along the way, explorers will enjoy unparalleled views from the top of the balcony, which are illuminated by the brightness of the moon. A wholly unique adventure, the Bodie Island Lighthouse Full Moon Tour is a special event that can’t be missed.

Full moon tour tickets go on sale at 7:00 a.m. on the day of the climb, and there are only 8 people allowed per climb, so visitors are advised to book as early as possible as these tours tend to sell out very quickly. Four climbs are held during each event, and the trek is a bit difficult, so visitors should be prepared for a bit of a hike. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children who are 15 years and younger, and there are no refunds for cancellations or no-shows. This truly memorable way to experience the 1852 Bodie Island Lighthouse is an event that will be a highlight of any vacation.
